Abstract
The topic of employment or rather irregular employment has always been a well-debated subject in Japanese cultural studies. As the number of Japanese citizens shifting from full-time employment to irregular increased, many concerned parties within the community began creating opinion pieces regarding this topic. This thesis explores the generational influences upon the GenX characters of Okada Toshiki's play, Enjoy. Along with an exploration of the key theatrical components behind the play and a brief summarization of the different socio-economic environments present within Japan from the 1980s-2000s, this thesis consists of several character analyses of key characters from the play utilizing both traditional literature and theatrical analysis approaches.
