Environmental Studies

Abstract

For my senior Environmental Studies thesis, I decided to create a piece of Climate Fiction, weird fiction, or science fiction. I am not entirely sure what to call the genre of this piece as it covers a number of different markers. I did the thesis in this form because I felt it would best convey the ways in which I have internalized and used the many different ideas and concepts I have acquired during my time at Bates. My brain has always worked in a more creative way than anything fully practical, I like to think in abstracts and create stories from the various bits of knowledge I find during my studies to form a grander picture of everything. This story I have created features parts of almost every class and subject I have learned whether through the world-building, the thematical and theoretical elements, or the characters themselves. I have broken down the themes and theories that are the drivers of the story into six different components that pull their resources and creation from various authors, and theorists I have read throughout my studies.
