Abstract
“No Man is an Island” is a documentary created in order to educate the Bates campus on the current legal battles between the Penobscot Nation and the State of Maine over the river rights of the Penobscot River. Through extensive interviews and the personal narrative of the filmmaker’s pursuit for the truth, the film gives an overview of the case, a look into the struggle to gain knowledge about it, and asks the audience to decide whether academic freedom should be pursued if it indirectly hurts an oppressed group.
