Abstract
Science fiction provides a liminal space between reality and creativity in which humanity exposes truths about itself. By looking at Interstellar, directed by Christopher Nolan, and Parable of the Sower, written by Octavia Butler, it is possible to derive an important ecological consciousness that informs the ways in which we have chosen to live on Earth. By exploring, specifically, the motif of environmental degradation and social catastrophe to movement or escape, it is possible to discover exactly how it is we approach the Earth, and how we mean to treat it.
