The Bates Outing Club was founded in 1920 and is the second oldest organization of its type in the country. Every person of the Bates College community is technically a member of the club. Its administration is set up into officers, directors, and a Council composed of active members. The officers run the administrative aspects of the club while the directors run the outing activities. The organization runs trips throughout New England with such activities as hiking, climbing, skiing, canoeing, and kayaking.

The organization used to run several cabins in Maine, built and maintained by Outing Club members. The club has also maintained extensive sections of the Appalachian Trail, and currently maintains one section. The club hosted activities including clambakes and parts of Winter Carnival. Featured in this section is the newsletter of the club, Cat Tracks, and images from one of the club's scrapbooks.
