Abstract
Edmund S. Muskie’s sisters, Irene and Lucy were born in Rumford, Maine on January 26, 1912 and April 5, 1916 respectively. Their father, Stephen Muskie, was a tailor who emigrated from Poland. Their mother was a homemaker originally from Buffalo, New York. Both sisters went to St. Stephen’s High School and attended a Catholic church. Irene married a Chaisson at the age of twenty-three. She worked in a mill as a lab technician for eleven years. At the time of the interview, she resided in Rumford. Lucy married a Paradis at the age of twenty-eight. She went to hairdressing school and worked in a salon in Rumford. At the time of the interview, she lived in West Brewer, Maine.
