Scope and Content Note

Noémi Mei-Lin Stevens was born in 1939 in Shanghai, daughter of the American sailor John Franklin Stevens (1904-1960) and Li-hsien (Nancy) Wei. She was raised by her mother, who later married Adolf Max Glied, a German who worked for the American food company Hazelwood. She attended the St. Joseph’s Convent School in Shanghai. In 1950, the family sailed to Germany and settled in Hamburg. She studied at a Höhere Handelsschule. She married Hans-Martin Krüger (born 1937) in 1964, a free-lance photographer, and was a an assistant in his business. In 2008, they were awarded the Bürgermedaille for their work in the Bürgerinitiative für ausländische Mitbürger in Lichtenberg-Berlin, and in 2009 the Bundesverdienstmedaille.
