Abstract
A collection of appendices and deleted material from Anthony's book "Bates College and Its Background." The documents cover a wide variety of topics, including: Lewiston geography and economy; President Chase's letter recommending the College to Andrew Carnegie (1904); a history of campus activities, sports, and social life; early history of the faculty and development of the curriculum; Freewill Baptists and FWB education in Maine, including resolutions of the Baptist Education Society (1840) and the Topsham Convention (1854); college rules; early coeducation at Bates; the proposed observatory on Mount David; and the Bates Forestry Department.
