Scope and Content Note
Herbert M. Moses was born in 1912. His father Maximilian Moses was an exterminator in Berlin. He studied at the University in Berlin to become an exterminator. He married Leah Blumenthal, also born in 1912 in Berlin, about 1935, and they sailed on a Messageries Maritimes liner from Marseille in August 1939. The ship stopped in Hong Kong, where they had to transfer to the “Conte Biancamano” to get to Shanghai. He worked there as an exterminator, and served in the Ordnungsdienst at the Ward Road Heim. Their son Ralph Peter Moses was born in 1945. Upon arrival in the US in 1947, their name was changed to Moss. They settled in Indianapolis, where another son, William Mac Moss, was born in 1947. Herbert founded the Total Exterminating Co., Inc., in 1948. He retired and sold this company in 1970. He died in 1995.
