Abstract
Animals go extinct without the knowledge of people, what is it about certain animals that compels people to conserve them. The endangered El Segundo blue butterfly was decreasing as its habitat decreased due to the expansion of the Los Angeles International Airport. After years of ups and downs in restoration efforts, it has been re-introduced to the El Segundo dunes. Many animals have similar fates, while others are either forgot or ignored. Each animal has its place in society that determines its importance.
